The NOISE Was Deafening!
Inspection Bill Defeated in the House
Bill to End Motorcycle Rider Education also Defeated
Motorcycle Sound Bill Amended – Which NHADA Supports – Heads to Senate
At 2:15 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 22, the House of Representatives wisely agreed with its Transportation Committee recommendation to kill the biennial inspection bill (HB 1693) by a vote of 238-110. This is an overwhelming reversal of last year's vote of 234-101 in favor of virtually the same bill. (Each bill would have instituted biennial vehicle inspections instead of the current annual inspections.)
Thanks to your grassroots efforts, we all have won a great victory today! We asked members to make noise, and it was deafening: phone calls, emails, letters - we have no doubt that was a big, big part of our success.
Barring a motion for reconsideration, the bill is dead for this session.
Also today, a bill that would have ended the state motorcycle rider education program (HB 1503) was defeated by a vote of 230-117.
The bill that would have limited motorcycle sound emissions (HB 1442) and required EPA approval of motorcycle exhausts was amended, as NHADA supported. The changed legislation would use a new, safer, and easier method of motorcycle sound testing.
Stay tuned for more information from NHADA on the votes including the roll calls.
